What You MUST DO:

• Call for Professional Help Immediately: Call our 24/7 Piney Mountain, VA emergency line at 18335410100. Soot and smoke are acidic and will cause further damage (etching, staining) if not treated quickly.
• Limit Movement: Limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being ground into carpets and upholstery.
• Protect Your Hands: If you must touch items, wear clean gloves. The oil from your hands can react with soot and cause further damage.
• Protect Your Health: Use a dust mask or respirator if you must be inside, as airborne soot and chemicals are hazardous.
• Secure Important Documents: If safe, retrieve critical documents like insurance policies, passports, and financial records.

What You MUST NOT DO:

• Do NOT Attempt to Clean Soot Yourself: This is the most important rule. Soot is oily and embeds itself in surfaces. Wiping it with a standard cloth or sponge will only smear and permanently set the stain. Specialized techniques are required.
• Do NOT Use Electronics: Do not turn on any TVs, computers, or appliances. Soot can get inside and short-circuit the electronics when powered on.
• Do NOT Use Upholstered Furniture: Do not sit on or try to clean upholstered furniture or carpets. You will embed the soot.
• Do NOT Eat Any Food: Dispose of all food and beverages, including canned goods, that were exposed to the fire, heat, or smoke.
• Do NOT Turn on Your HVAC System: This will circulate soot and contaminants throughout your entire Piney Mountain, VA home, causing cross-contamination.Our professional team will arrive at your Piney Mountain, VA home, secure the property (e.g., board-up windows), assess the damage from fire, soot, and water, and begin the restoration process.
